Teaching Artist and Curriculum Development

Teaching Artistry & Curriculum Development

I worked as a theatre arts educator with Park Avenue Armory, BAX, The Moth, LIU Brooklyn, and numerous after school programs with elementary and middle school aged students.

I also have had the opportunity to teach and develop curriculum at BAM and Irish Arts Center. Highlights as an educator include:

  • Developing curriculum and teaching family workshops centered on large-scale work at the Armory such as Macbeth, ...tears become...streams become, and The XX
  • Working with children ages 9 and up for the free Youthworks program at BAX.
  • Developing programs focused on film-making using social media platforms for Massive Attack V. Adam Curtis
  • Developing multidisciplinary lesson plans and teaching workshops on A Midsummer Night's Dream and I Am Peaseblossom for K-2 classrooms with the Park Avenue Armory,
  • Working with students with developmental disabilities at YAI on storytelling with The Moth.
  • Leading talk-backs with artists at BAM and developing curriculum for study guides. (Click here to read the study guide for Charlie's Kid)
  • Piloting pre-show lesson plans with BAM for children ages 3-5 in preparation for them to see the show Bedtime

Early Childhood Work

I  began teaching at Blue School in their Kindergarten program in September 2015.

I am thrilled to join the talented faculty at such an an amazing progressive school, and have enjoyed using my interests in early literacy and arts integration with children ages five and six. Blue School is known for embedding literacy into project work and a Reggio-based approach.

I also teach at the Brooklyn Public Library's Ready, Set, Kindergarten program each Summer. Using song, storytelling, and arts and crafts projects, I love being part of an important family program that helps both children and parents from all parts of Brooklyn in their journey towards Kindergarten.

Devising Work in Communities

I have worked an educator and theatre specialist to help create original pieces of theatre work with people at Senior Homes and at YAI, an organization that supports people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  My love for this kind of work began while taking a course in my graduate school program, in which we created original pieces of work at a senior home in Harlem.
